A little about The Silver Hen
I’m Nikki Brown, the illustrator and publisher behind The Silver Hen.
The Silver Hen began rather unexpectedly. I started creating illustrated covers for my local Brighton magazine, The North Laine Runner, and people began asking if they could buy the illustrations. So I turned them into greeting cards, started selling them at a local market, and before long they found their way into some of Brighton’s best independent card shops.
Three years later, I’m taking The Silver Hen further afield, creating new collections for independent retailers across the UK.
I still love capturing the character and quirks of particular places — so there will be plenty more location-inspired cards to come — alongside an ever-growing collection of original designs for all sorts of occasions.
Most Silver Hen designs are my own original illustrations, alongside carefully chosen collaborations with artists whose work I genuinely love. My first licensed collection is with illustrator Gerald Hawksley, whose work I admire and collect myself.
